What is an excess?

An excess is the amount you must contribute toward a claim for each event that occurs. If you need a reminder of the excess amount you have agreed to, you can find this on your most recent policy schedule

Pick up the phone

If you need to make a claim, don’t delay. Call Albany Insurance as soon as it’s practically possible to start your claim.

Get a photo

Your mobile can capture pictures that may help with a difficult claim. If you do take photos, let us know. We can advise if they’ll help with your claim.

Keep a record

Keeping accurate records is the key to a faster and more accurate payout. Please collect, record and photograph model and serial numbers and keep them somewhere safe.

Evidence

To stop vital information getting lost, take photographs where you can. For example, if in a motor vehicle accident, producing a photo of the scene may be useful in establishing the responsibility of a third party

Accident Checklist

  • Don’t admit responsibility for the accident.
  • Stay calm. If your vehicle is in the way put the hazard lights on and move your car to the nearest verge or curb.
  • Check that everyone is okay. If there are injuries dial 111 for an ambulance. Any injuries must be reported to the police within 24 hours.
  • If there’s a dispute, report it to the police immediately.
  • Contact us as soon as possible.
  • Collect as much information as you can at the time of the accident.
